Overall, this rare and exquisite walking stick remains in outstanding vintage condition. The shaft is a beautiful ochre brown color and is very strong. The handle shows only the tiniest amount of wear and a few light surface scratches. ![]() There is a small silver-toned tab affixed to the cord. This loop is meant to be worn around the wrist during use to prevent dropping or losing the walking stick. We particularly love the bold, geometric look of the monogram.įinally, a tiny mark near the base of the silver collar reads "925".Ī woven brown cord is wrapped around the shaft near the bottom of the collar. Typically, monograms are etched or incised into the metal whereas this one was crafted and subsequently applied. The monogram on the top of the handle is bewitching. What could be a more appropriate inscription for a walking stick? This brief German lyric translates to "Oh Hiking Hiking My Desire" the phrase is from a Carl Friedrich Zöllner song called Das Wandern ist des Mϋllers Lust ("Hiking Is the Miller's Desire") written in 1844. The bulbous top of the handle exhibits an inscription around the sides in deeply incised, bold capitals it reads "Kw" and "O Wandern Wandern Meine Lust". The collar is almost four inches long, making it the ideal grip-length.Ī very light hammered finish gives the silver handle a wonderfully dimensional and textural look. The hand rests comfortably on a sterling collar underneath the large bulb. Tiny iron nails hold the silver-toned steel tip perfectly in place.Īs you can see, the handle is quite large. The shaft is an incredibly valuable "full bark", meaning it is made from a single piece of wood. The elegant silver makes the perfect complement to the beautifully aged wood that makes up the shaft. The walking stick's large handle is rendered in brilliant sterling silver and features both a charming inscription as well as an almost cryptic monogram on the top. This is a must have for any collector of vintage walking sticks or canes. It is of extreme high quality and design style. We've never seen another walking stick with the same distinctly unusual or beautiful appeal. This vintage German cane is one of our very favorites.
